6/27/10 Having brunch at Spring House before heading home is sort of a tradition of my sister's and her family-- well, they've eaten their last breakfasts here for about two years prior, so it sounds like a tradition, but I think it's having Spring House's chocolate cake for the drive home that keeps bringing my sister back each year! ;) SH certainly has the feel of the neighborhood family restaurant, w/ kitschy climbing ivy and floral touches and the odd birdcages scattered around the loft area (I don't think anyone could dine up there). I swear bird songs were piped in to make you think that there were live birds flitting about. (At least I hoped they were piped in, bec. I certainly don't get the warm fuzzies thinking that at any moment now I might find bird droppings in my food!) The place was hopping for 1130 on a Saturday morning, but something tells me that every morning is like this at SH. I like to try the biscuits and gravy whenever I try someplace new, so this was definitely going to be one of my choices this morning. The description of the country ham and biscuit called my attention more than the B&G, as did the Belgian waffle w/ ice cream (I chose chocolate), so I had to order these as well. Thank goodness that I did, because, as you can see from the pic, the B&G was one of the worst-looking example of B&G I've ever ordered. It took awhile to get everyone's choices in, but after everything was placed, and factoring in the rush that morning, I think service was OK- quick and friendly enough. Not as friendly as the service we received at Mr. Fish a few miles away, but I found that the further I get from the tourist attractions, the more courteous the service gets, and SH is close to many of the resorts here, so it won't lack in customers (which translates to the servers not having to be as friendly to get decent daily tip counts). How was the country ham and biscuit? It was very good! So good, I wrapped half to have on the drive home. The ham was a little too salty, but paired w/ the terrific texture of the biscuit, I won't complain. I can't say the same about the biscuit and gravy, though. Wished I'd asked beforehand if the sauce had sausage chunks, for it didn't arrive w/ any, and had the sauce been flavorful enough w/ them, I wouldn't have minded. Have I mentioned how awful this dish presented? The waffle and ice cream was OK-- I really liked the waffle's crunchy/chewy texture. I don't know how many rubbery or floppy-wet waffles I've had in the past-- this was actually quite good! Looking back now, I'd have much preferred it w/ a homemade fruity compote or even preserves (or better yet, conserves). I won't complain, though, since I was able to have ice cream (even if store-bought) one more time before heading home from a great vacation! p.s. Mom's French toast looked so good, but I had three items to work through, so I thought I'd leave her to enjoy her meal. (She said it was delicious!) p.p.s. The chocolate cake looked great and tasted OK, but I found it too sweet. It had chocolate ganache, as well as chocolate pudding, nestled between a few cake layers, plus a chocolate cookie crust (sorry I couldn't include a pic- the drive home wasn't too kind on the slices in their to-go boxes.) I'd skip it next time and just order a couple more of the country ham sandwiches!

We were heading out and had a coupon for here. We thought we would give it a try. We both ordered skillets. However, my skillet came out incorrect. I ordered the meat skillet and received the Carolina skillet. My wife received the right one, so I had to sit and wait for my correct one to come out. It was very good once it was made correctly. We both tried the coffee cake and found it to be more dry than other coffee cake we have had before. The waitress was great and very apologetic for the skillet mistake. She also took the drinks off of our bill and gave us a 15% discount. The service was great here and we will be back on our next visit to Myrtle Beach.

Worst service I've ever gotten. Or should I say lack of service. Please do not waste your time waiting just to eventually leave. First, I walk in to find an employee who vaguely acknowledges me. Then I proceed to stand at the host stand for almost ten minutes to finally get sat by an eight year old girl being given directions of where to take us by an 80 year old woman. Odd, to say the least. The interior is severely dated. Almost falling apart. We then sit for another 15-20 minutes before we trying flagging down a server. Finally, the old woman who instructed the young girl where to sit us asks us our drink order and wobbly brings us our drinks. My boyfriend ordered coffee that he never got. Another 10 minutes or so passes and finally a server emerges from the back. She takes our order (at this point I'm so done with this experience I don't even order food. I wouldn't trust anything out of that kitchen) and proceeds to disappear again. I am so fed up and hungry at this point that I literally drive to McDonald's, order, come back, and the food is still not there. I eat some of my McDonald's (because I am starving), we give it another 5 minutes for the guys to get their food and then we leave. My boyfriend did get his soup. It wasn't what he ordered, but some food did actually hit the table. I might also note that the whole time we were there the table next to us never got bussed and several other tables left. I have NEVER actually left a restaurant before. Especially without paying. Nor have I ever written a review. That is how strongly I feel about this place. That is how HORRIBLE it was. DO NOT waste your time or money. Please. So many other decent restaurants with hardworking employees deserve your time and money. Not this place.

Stopped in for breakfast and were seated right away. Polite staff. Honestly, the worst breakfast food I've ever tasted. I ordered the veggie skillet. The vegetables tasted like they came from a frozen bag. The eggs were rubbery and had zero seasoning. I took one bite, spit it out and sent it back. Husband had fruit bowl, French toast plate and we had two drinks $19 without the food I sent back.

Very disappointed. We went around noon on Sunday and restaurant was only half full. Had to wait 10 minutes to be seated. Then when seated were told waffle machine was broken and we went for the waffles. Then we ordered and took over 30+ minutes for eggs, sausage and pancakes. It wasn't worth the wait. Nothing special. When checking out other customers were complaining about wait too and owner was not very sympathetic about the inconvenience of waiting so long. We will not be going back.

Full disclosure, It's been three years since we've been to Spring House, so some things may have changed since that time. I doesn't matter, because I'm not going back. First off, we walked in and the place had a very dirty feeling. The tables and seats were sticky. There is an upper loft full of bird cages which contain live birds. This added to over all ickyness. As we sat eating our meal you could watch the occasional rain of feathers float down onto patrons eating below. Disgusting! Service was spotty and unreliable. Waitress, who seemed nice, was covered from head to toe in scabs and contusions. Reminded me of a longtime meth addict. Nothing personnel, just not pleasant to see them handling my food. My wife was so disgusted that she pretty much refused to eat. It was probably a good thing, as the food was horribly greasy and just not good. When I left, I felt like I needed a shower. I do not recommend eating here. Probably one of the worst dinning experiences of my life.

NO ICE! Today our family had several places to choose for breakfast on our morning walk. We chose the Spring house as we had been here in the past and had a nice breakfast. So what happened? This morning we arrived at 10:15. We waited at the front counter for five to seven minutes to be seated. The hostess was running between seating guests and acting as cashier. We were seated. We waited another five to seven minutes to be greeted by our waitress. She took our drink orders. And was gone for over 10 minutes. We noticed that lots of tables were waiting on their food. After we finally got our drinks. We placed our order. Very simple: pancakes, cheese omelet, sausage and egg sandwich. After 30 minutes of waiting, and the waitress NEVER checking on us we finally got our food. Which was brought with another tables food. How lazy. Our food was cold. We asked for refills on our drinks, napkins and ketchup. My husband was brought his drink refill with NO ice. Our waitress informed us that they were out of ice and someone would be running to get it across the street and she would bring some more. She never brought ice. She came many minutes later and brought the bill. I asked her to remove the drink because if no ice. She did. We went to pay at the register. The cashier never asked how our meal was. I would have loved to tell her about our experience but on top of all this, the place was so hot that I just needed to get outside where it was 90 degrees and much cooler.

We chose this restaurant because it was close and there was no wait. The food was fine, nothing that made us want to come back a second night. The best thing ordered was the turkey dinner. It was real, roasted turkey, not the dreaded "turkey roll slices". The staff was friendly and attentive. The prices were reasonable.
(3)Terry L.
I ordered Beef Tips over Rice. About 30% of the meat was fat or grissle. The 70% that was okay was good. My portion was medium. My better half had Turkey and said that it was delicious. Her portion was enormous. Prices were typical for a traditional family restaurant.

After 10 years of going to Myrtle beach and seeing this and it's sister restaurants every time, I finally decided to stop for breakfast on Sunday on the way out of town. I have to say the service was excellent; our waitress was on the ball and we were seated quickly..but I also noticed it wasn;t very packed as the place I usually stop in Plantation pancakes . No worry I figured it was the overflow for the Plantation Pancake place down the road and Hot Cakes. I ordered coffee and french toast and bacon. Coffee tasted bland and I am NOT a starbucks type so I was expecting more maybe dunkin donuts type coffee. The bacon was cold like they had a pile of it fried for the Sunday rush and didn't heat it up as were my sisters home fries. French toast was ok but it was lukewarm also. It wasn't as if the waitress left it there cause it came out really quickly. Overall kind of blah..was sad because I like to frequent locally owned places there and it's becoming harder and harder to find them.

The owner of this local trio of dirty spoons prefers Fuddrucker's to his own joints, so that should tell you something. Sadly, we've been suckered into all three of these choke 'n pukes, and each one is worse than the other. Obviously, cleanliness is not in this clown's vocabulary. It was so bad the last time we got dragged kicking and screaming into their North Myrtle Beach location, that the roaches that scurried out to join us only ordered water. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner, so you can choose what time of day you want to get food poisoning.

Service was very good seated as soon as we came in the door. Wait staff took order and food delivered very quickly. Coffee was good and hot, left me my own carafe, smart because coffee gets cold fast. Did not have real butter, only vegetable spread; on vaca splurging on pancakes would like to also splurge on the flavor of real butter. Decor quite dated but everything looked clean to me . They have real birds in cages on the balcony above the seating area-different but kind of nice to listen to them while we ate.
(4)Andrea B.
Waited 20 minutes for a table while 12+ tables sat empty. Once seated, 15 minutes before our order was taken (now 15+ tables empty) and 20 minutes for food to arrive. People are nice, cute to see the young nieces working hostess stand and wiping tables but service.....terrible!
(1)T W.
Slow service, waited over 35 min for our food to come out for breakfast, just two of us, wasn't even busy in there. Food was a little below average. There are many options in M.B. this shouldn't be one.
(2)Ebonet J.
Umm- just don't do it! To start The coffee was awful!!! My husband who has a stomach of steel was really ill after a few sips of coffee and water. My coffee and water tasted funny and shortly after my stomach started to hurt as well. The food was mediocre at best. It took a good 1/2 hour to get our food and this was easy breakfast stuff- then the food came out cold and tasteless. Find somewhere else to spend your money

We did not encounter many of the issues that other reviewers did. Maybe management has worked out the issues. We quickly got seated and our waitress was attentive and pleasant, our drinks never went below half. Food came out quick and was much better than typical diner food. The place was packed with every table seated and people kept coming in. We both had the chicken fried steak and eggs - I honestly have to say this was the best country fried steak I have had as it was tender and not over cooked. The only reason I did not rate 5 stars is because one of us ordered white toast, but wheat toast was delivered instead. But by no means a deal breaker. If they are this good on Labor Day weekend, maybe they have improved since the other reviewers visited.

We made the mistake of not looking at yelp prior to stopping . Please don't make the same mistake . Food was bad and not worth the cheap price. I don't like to down grade places that try but can't believe this place is open. The food was really sub par and hope people stay clear of dinning there. Potato and grits were cold and the toast felt left over from the day before. Service was the same as the food so i guess they had the total package for a poor dining experience.
(1)Jessica M.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!!!! Just had lunch / brunch on my friends first day as residents and it was horrible!!! I am not one to complain but let me set the scene for you.... the place was not busy we waited about 5 minutes to b seated or to see someone other than the cashier who was ringing out a few people. Sat down and it took FOREVER for service THE FOOD::: EGGS sopping in grease BACON was deep fried in a big clump PANCAKES were dry and tough SOUP was warmed In the microwave the the bowl they served it to me in tasted like water and canned vegetables CHICKEN SAND was served on OVERLY buttered bread NOT TOASTED dry chicken no flavor or seasoning SPRING SKILLET was FLOATING in a sea of grease we left and went to another place to eat.
(1)Matthew F.
Good service but home fries had no seasoning and we're basically bite size French Fries. Omlets/eggs and coffee cake are the way to go!
(3)Annie B.
We have been here before but never again. Right from the beginning we knew we should have left. They were not busy but the service was very slow. We were not given lunch menus until we asked. When we finally got our food it was bland and the service was terrible. My meal came incomplete and I had to ask for rest of it which I was given begrudgingly. For a breakfast place the biscuit i was finally given was flat, dry and tasteless. Way overpriced for the quality. When we complained at the end, the cashier did not seem to care at all. Didn't seem concerned about customer satisfaction at all. What a disappointing way to end our vacation.
(1)Alyssa B.
Just turn around and DRIVE THE OTHER WAY!!! Once we got to are table there were a ton of ANTS ALL OVER IT!!!! My question is how do you think there kitchen would look if there seating is like this? Health department should really inspect this place better because it received an A....

Basic breakfast for a low cost. The food at the Spring House is nothing to 'Spring' out of bed for. Very plain, basic, and probably something you could make better at home. The wait staff wasn't terrible, the host was wonderful, but I'm going to have to say the birds in cages really threw me off. There has never been a time in my life where I thought it would be a cool experience to hear birds chirp in a open concept restaurant that smelled like a cinnamon Yankee candle. I could have lived without hearing or seeing that. Maybe they should put the birds in another room closed off from the restaurant? I got scrambled eggs with cheese, sausage, orange juice, coffee and a pancake and it came to 12. The price is worth it, if your ready for a quiet but surreal breakfast experience.
(3)Jon L.
Went here for breakfast during Easter break. Very attentive service, we both had the eggs Benedict, I had the crab and it was great! The coffee and toast were great too. I liked the chirping of the live brids...yes they are in cages.
(4)Jim E.
We heard good things but now our curiosity is satisfied. Hostess says 30 minute wait with 14 (not an exaggeration) empty tables. Everything is old and dirty. My wife's food doesn't come until everybody else is almost done eating. Biscuit was good but everything else was average to below average. Don't waste your time or money on this one.
(1)Karen P.
Very good meal for the money. One of our favorites.
(4)Jon S.
Came for breakfast the food was ok. i had better breakfast. the portion was small and not filling.
(3)Dan P.
Went here with a party of 8, 4 adults and 4 children. Seated immediately. Ordered orange juice that ended up being brown juice and tastes like watered down concentrate. Coffee was hot and drinkable. Between the 8 of us a little of everything was ordered. Nothing special. When the food was brought out, 1 of the kids actually started gagging from the smell alone. Even the 11 month old, who eats ANYTHING, wouldn't eat the food. The sausage was no better than McD's (which means that it wasn't sausage at all), scrambled eggs and omelets were made from Eggbeaters poured out of a jug, and the fresh fruit had dead gnats in it. Worst breakfast ever. Will never go back, ever.
(1)Dana B.
This was my first and last trip to the Spring House. The restaurant was nearly empty which should have been my first clue. We waited nearly 40 minutes for our breakfast to arrive. My pancakes were cold, the orange juice was warm and the gravy on my husband's country fried steak was glazed over from sitting under the heater too long. Don't get me started on the live birds. Don't waste your money on this place.
(1)Joseph M.
This has to be the worst place for breakfast. Rude owner, slow service, and burnt food. I would highly recommend going any where else than this place. Never returning again.
(1)Jeffrey B.
This was my family's tradition for breakfast on Sunday. NO MORE! Not sure if they changed owners, but it is now a dump. The restaurant previously welcomed you with a lighted display full of pies and cakes. Now the display is empty and gives the first impression of what the rest of the place is like. Worn down and trashy. We arrived to the restaurant with a small line out the door, which we are accustomed to in the past. When we got inside, we discovered the place wasn't even 1/2 full. It took the hostess 20 minutes to get us seated, due to her leaving the front and serving people drinks. This did raise an eyebrow on why there was such a wait when not even 50% of the seats were filled. It took them 1 hr to get some of the food to us. Then, 40 min for the rest of our food. The ultra delayed food was burnt and slopped together, looking like it was an old microwaved meal from someone else's breakfast. They forgot the hollandaise sauce, which later came out looking like a huge bird poop, mixed with vomit. The waitress was kind enough to remove two of the train wrecked meals from our bill. Once we got to the front, the hostess took our check, but never asked how the meal was or if we enjoyed ourselves, which was extremely strange. I mentioned to the hostess, who ended up being the owner, about my experience. She didn't ask us how our meal was, because she already knew her cook staff was extremely sub par and was hoping we wouldn't say anything. She finally said she was sorry about the food, but her words were put in a "shut up and leave" tone. She didn't have the decency or courage to address us herself, during this entire 1hr 40 min food wait. She blamed our bad experience on a "summer time rush", which was a complete lie. I have been to this restaurant during the actual summer rush and the experience was much different. We are never eating here again. They need Gordon Ramsey to get this kitchen nightmare under control. Feel free to try out this place, if you would like to experience a restaurant that should be shut down and ownership changed. This use to be a great place. Now it has dwindled down below the most filth encrusted truck stop diner.

Good food, good atmosphere, and professional staff. I enjoyed it so much I am going back for breakfast in the morning.
(4)Chris K.
Good place for a good breakfast. Refer to my tip.
(4)Berrius B.
Clean and well lit, which is not that easy to find around Myrtle Beach. Depending on where you are sitting, you may see a sliver of ocean. They have two parrots in the entrance named Julio and something... weird, but fun. Fast service, food came out quickly. Decent food, decent price. The coffee leaves something to be desired, but they leave the coffee-pot at your table. This is another breakfast place that has started charging WAY too much for their crappy coffee (Dennys too).
(3)C B.
Two stars for the service only - the food rates a one, at best. Don't do it - keep driving, there is a reason no one is waiting to be seated.
(2)Ian M.
I ended up going here with my date on our last day in Myrtle Beach. I convinced the kitchen at 10:50 to make me lunch. I ended up ordering liver and onions. Unfortunately, the liver was covered with a salty gravy that I didn't much care for. The fried okra, while oily, was quite tasty, and the biscuit was nice. As I remember it, my date liked his omelet.
(3)Ken S.
Came here for breakfast. Atmosphere is clean and bright. Pancakes are very good and large. Don't come here though if the sound of birds chirping while you eat bothers you.
(3)Cheryl C.
We drove by the pretty building several times during our vacation and noticed the $2.99 breakfast sign. Unfortunately, this sign was a little misleading as the only thing on the breakfast menu for $2.99 was cereal with bananas. The total bill for four (2 adults and 2 children) exceeded $30.00. The food arrived fairly quickly, but most was cold and some of it had to be sent back for microwaving (the potatoes were tasty, but cold and butter would not melt on the pancakes).
